Description
Hello, Thanks for looking : ) amazing workmanship in this knight jacket/tunic. made by the m.c. lilley co. maker of military and society goods. this label is from 1882-1924. they made clothes for knights of templar and others. Society and military associations became very popular after the Civil War and around 1900 there were over seven million members. There were many types of societies including Military, Military Association, Fraternal, Religious, Veteran, Social, Benevolent, Occupational, Political, Patriotic, Mystic, Nationality, and Antinationality. After the Civil War, military uniform manufacturers began convert their production to lodge goods. M.C. Lilley of Kalamazoo, Michigan, C. E. Ward of New London, Ohio, Ward-Stilson Co. of Anderson, Indiana, Petitioner Brothers of Greenville, Illinois and numerous others employed artists and craftsmen to sew and build furniture, turning out a vast array of lodge items, The manufactures of Red Men costumes employed Seneca and Iroquois Indians to sew elaborate beaded clothing. it's in really good condition. lining pretty good except near waistband as shown. the closures have all been repaired thru time. snaps all work. two rings are missing from the waist band. there is a fleur de lis motif with braiding, embroidery and jewels on the front. at the waist is a belt buckle with a knights head. each ring at the waist, bottom points, shoulder points and neckline has a faceted prong set citrine color jewel. sturdy rayon velvet in rich navy and rose. chest 44, waist 40. shoulders 18 1/2, length 36. this could be worn still with no fear of damaging. it's not fragile.
