Description
Hello, Thanks for looking : ) amazing workmanship in this knight jacket/tunic. made by the c.e. ward co. of new london oh. regalia costumes and supplies. robe and regalia maker of military and society goods. this label is from 1880-1946. they made clothes for knights of templar and others. Society and military associations became very popular after the Civil War and around 1900 there were over seven million members. There were many types of societies including Military, Military Association, Fraternal, Religious, Veteran, Social, Benevolent, Occupational, Political, Patriotic, Mystic, Nationality, and Antinationality. After the Civil War, military uniform manufacturers began convert their production to lodge goods. M.C. Lilley of Kalamazoo, Michigan, C. E. Ward of New London, Ohio, Ward-Stilson Co. of Anderson, Indiana, Petitioner Brothers of Greenville, Illinois and numerous others employed artists and craftsmen to sew and build furniture, turning out a vast array of lodge items, The manufactures of Red Men costumes employed Seneca and Iroquois Indians to sew elaborate beaded clothing. this is in really good condition. lining very good. the closures (snaps and hooks) all work. this coat has epaulets braiding and soutache. the fringe is all twisted wire. (like springs) i pinned on a braid where it goes on the front. there is a large lion missing. the braid ends with 3 large amber jewels at the shoulder. the points of the skirt are all seperate creating great movement when walking. they have wire fringe, silver discs 3/4", lions heads and another brass motif. the yolk red velvet is worn threadbare in the front and back (no flock). the waistband has the same wear to a much lesser degree. the rest of the velvet is rich. the yolk has double row silver discs 1/2". the neck 7/8". sturdy rayon velvet in rich black and red. chest 44, waist 40. shoulders 18 1/2, length 36. this could be worn still with no fear of damaging. it's not fragile.
