This is a great piece from an old Vermont estate. Stick is supposedly made from wood salvaged from the ruins of the American Revolutionary War Ship the "Royal Savage" the Flagship of Benedict Arnold, while still in the water - later ship was raised. Notorized document reads, "State of Vermont / County of Chittenden / Affidavit / - I, Gertrude Parks Carlson, being duly sworn, deposes and says: A walking Cane, which was given to my Grandfather, Otis C. Parks, by the Grand Army of the Republic Post of Keesville, New York, where he was a resident. / This walking cane is made from a piece of wood from Benedict Arnold's flagship, The Royal Savage, which sunk in the Battle of Valcour Island, October 11, 1776, in Lake Champlain and later raised in 1934.
