Description
Description: >This 1-piece princess polonaise gown is such a stunning vivid green trimmed in black with jet beading. I think the fabric is a wool or cotton blend of some sort, as it is thick and sturdy but still shiny and very elegant. The top is lined (and not boned) although the skirt part is not lined. The construction of this piece, with vertical seams that end at mid-shoulder, help date it to the mid to late 1870s when the more "natural form" line was in style. >There are vertical ties inside at the rear that help gently "bustle" the fabric, where there is a large "bow" lined in black with a jet bead applique and black buttons. The sleeve cuffs are pleated and have bead appliques and buttons also. Large pockets lined in black are at the front, and the slightly trained skirt has a pleated hem. Buttons down the front with black covered buttons which are all showing wear to the fabric. The bust is 31" and the waist is 25". The gown is in excellent condition, with no problems except the button wear and a very slight bit of underarm fabric lightening only at the seams which is not seen when displayed. The owner of this gown was said to have come to Nebraska from Germany in the 1870s. Thanks!
