Description
Petite Pretty Pink Day Dress! Civil War Era reproduction dress made of pink and cream plaid 100% homespun cotton with natural "slubs", which should not be considered flaws, as they make up the unique character of the textile and reflects the time period of the dress. The bodice has a cream colored 3" antique crocheted collar bought at an auction - very pretty and handsewn on for easy removal. The bodice also has two gold antique buttons sewn on for accent.  Across the bodice, around the sleeves, cuffs and along the hem of the skirt is a 1" crocheted cotton insert lace with cream ribbon.  Peeking out from under the hem of the skirt is a cream colored 5" cotton eyelet lace. The bodice closes in the back with 4 pink antique-looking buttons and hook-n-eye closures at the attached skirt. This dress is made for a woman who is 5 feet tall or shorter and is to be worn over a hooped crinoline of a circumference of no more than 170" or lots of layers of petticoats. All seams are serged. The pattern of the dress is designed to fit a wide range of sizes i.e.: no fitted waist, wide neckline and dropped shoulders/sleeves.   This dress is an original creation of my own, fashioned around a dress made in the Civil War era (1861-1865) This dress would have been called a "day dress or housedress."  The bodice would normally have been canvas-lined for extra strength and warmth - but is lined with the same fabric as the dress. This dress was often worn hoopless when doing heavier chores or working in the garden.  It comes with an apron; nearly every woman of the era wore an apron at some time during the day and there was a different size apron for almost every chore. For outside chores, this dress comes with a matching bonnet and a pretty bow attached.  No respectable woman went outside without covering her head from the elements. To have a matching bonnet such as this one, would have been a luxury. Also, having "adornments" on the dress such as this one has would have not necessarily been "period correct." Regardless, this dress beautifully reflects what would have been considered appropriate costume for the Civil War Era. Bust:  38" Shoulder to hem of skirt: 51" Waist:  Sack style dress - accomodates any size waist Skirt circumference:  170"     Thank you for visiting my site and please check out my other Period-style clothing!
