Description
This beautiful Edwardian style lawn or lingerie dress incorporates a metal zipper; so I am supposing it was made sometime from the 30's to the 60's, though reflecting an older generation. The skirt features 5-inch rows of vertical pin tucking separated by 2-inch ribbons of Chantilly style lace. The bottom of the skirt, measuring about 160 inches around, is comprised of 3 rows of the same lace ribbons (see image 6), and the bottoms of the bell sleeves (see image 3) have 4 rows. Another single row of lace surrounds the arm about mid-sleeve. The bodice uses horizontal pin tucking, and features 2 rows of lace at the waist and a V-neckline (front and back) bordered with double rows of lace. A single row of lace is placed vertically on either side of the bust, and on each side of the zipper in the back. The waist is approximately 30 inches; the bust about 40 inches; and shoulder seam to shoulder seam measures about 17 inches. The piece is approximately 56 inches long, from shoulder to the bottom of the skirt, and about 17 inches shoulder to waist. There is slight yellowing from hanging a long period that should disappear with cleaning (see images 1 and 6), the skirt has pulled away from the bodice in a couple of places (see final image), the zipper has pulled loose an inch or so at the top, and there are a couple of areas of make-up soiling (see the two images prior to the last one), which I have not attempted to clean; but, other than those, the dress is in quite good vintage condition.
