In his long career he shod such greats as Winston Churchill, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Rudolph Valentino,Humphrey Bogart, Clark Gable, Spencer Tracy, Gary Cooper, Cary Grant, and Adolphe Menjou. Even more importantly to shoe aficionado's, he developed the Cleverley Shape - an absolutely exquisite chisel-toe design that many consider to be the ne plus ultra of gentleman's shoes.  Mr Cleverley spent his last 13 years at New & Lingwood where, in semi-retirement, he continued to build shoes for a few select gentleman. When he died in 1991 he left his name, business and customer list to his protege George Glasgow and John Carnera, who then started the current G.J. Cleverley and Co. Ltd.   I have here for auction a brand new pair of George Cleverley loafers, made in November 2003. Style - classic black tassel loafers with handsewn apron seam and braided cords. This is the most elegant tassel loafer I have ever seen. The gentleman at Cleverley took a somewhat staid design and refined it into something really special.  Size - From the measurements I would estimate that these fit a US size 12 to 12 1/2 wide. Please check the measurements though to be sure they will work for you. Condition - Brand new, never worn!! Leather - black calf. Sole - leather, with a beveled waist and a "half black" finish. Length of sole - 12.5" (slightly longer than it sounds - the heel is tapered which reduces the length somewhat.) Width of sole at widest point - the right shoe measures 4 5/8" while the left is slightly narrower at 4 9/16"The custom made Cleverley lasted trees are included.
