You are looking at a reproduction Rifleman's Frock or Hunting Shirt. These coats sell for $175 to $250 at Rendezvous.This coat first made appearances during the American Revolution and the exploration of the Eastern US and was worn right on down into the mid to late 1800s in one variation or another. Most often constructed in the open front style, the front is overlapped and held closed by a leather belt or sash. This loose fitting, double caped garment was decorated to the wearer's taste and varied from simple to elaborate decorations. The sleeves were either plain or pleated with cuffs. The coats were often dyed in colors such as black, navy, brown, gray, and many shades of green as well as left natural. The coat you are looking at is made from a medium weight, 100% woven cotton fabric - perfect weight fabric for a heavy shirt or light coat!. The coat up for auction is a sage green color and has been trimmed in a woven black braid with brown hand made fringe.  The sleeves are pleated with buttons at the cuffs. All seams have been finished to ensure durability. The garment measurements are as follows: Sleeve is 29" ;  base of the neck to the hem (length of the coat) is 43""; shoulder seam to shoulder seam across the back is 26, the back has been pleated at the neck to allow more room for more comfortable movement.
