Buy It Now – if you don’t understand how it works I will take a shot at explaining it here but you might be better off searching the help menu of eBay.  The Buy It Now is only available until the first person places a bid.  It is a price that the seller sets, higher than the opening bid.  It is the price that the buyer is willing to sell the item and forgo the chance that his/her item will be popular and get bid way up.  When I set the Buy It Now price properly the item sells within a few hours, I don’t have to wait for 7-10 days for the auction to end and the buyer guarantees they don’t have to get in a bidding war with someone.  But, once the first bid has been placed it is no longer available other than through the normal auction method where you bid against other interested parties.  The first bidder is gambling that the item will not get bid up as high as the Buy It Now price.  The person who used Buy It Now either doesn’t want to wait for the entire length of the auction or is betting that the item WILL get bid up past that price and so they Buy It Now and figure they are saving themselves money and time.  So, in the future, if you see an item you want and it has a Buy It Now price that seems reasonable to you should act fast before someone comes in and makes it disappear by placing the first standard bid.
