IRENE Lentz~VTG 40s BLACK DRAPED SASH PiN-UP DRESS! M/L Hollywood's MGM Designer post-ADRIAN! Classic Couture!! We spend a lot of time and effort on our photos, but sometimes they just don't capture the truly spectacular nature of what we're photographing. If you glance at the photos of this dress for just a moment, this dress looks like a beautiful vintage late-40's black rayon cocktail dress. It *is*. But if you look just a bit closer for just a moment longer, you begin to see that this piece is much more incredible than just a "little black dress"!First, there is a built-in nude rayon brassiere. It's attached to the dress and fastens in the back with hooks and eyes. The brassiere is present to protect the wearer from accidental exposure, since the neckline on this beauty is scandalously low-cut!The Incredibly draped neckline crosses with sash-like, almost grecian goddess-like pleated panels that criss-cross over the bust and wrap around the waistline to the back of the waist, where they fasten with hooks and eyes into a "belt"!From below the point where the sashes cross the bust there emerge three tiers of vertical sash panels that hang down the skirt at varying lengths. The hourglass shape of the skirt is reflected in the dolman-sleeved bodice, which itself extends into elegantly pleated, tapered 3/4-length sleeves. The entire piece zips up the back with a metal zipper. Finally, we must note the designer label: Irene Lentz! Irene began doing custom pieces through Bullock's-Wilshire in 1935 and in 1942 replaced the too-incredible-for-words Adrian at MGM. She received two Academy Awards nominations and designed for Ginger Rogers in Shall we Dance, Lana Turner in The Postman always rings twice, and others. As a "designer to the stars", she dressed numerous celebrities including Marlene Dietrich, Marilyn Monroe, Ingrid Bergman, Katherine Hepburn, and Ava Gardner. This dress holds Irene's highly coveted Bullock's-Wilshire label. So if it's your size, don't miss it!
