Description
Being offered is the second 1820’s gown from a Vermont estate. It was originally worn by Harriett Haswell Armstrong. It is made of white cotton and all hand stitched. The front bodice is ruched and decorated with thin bands of padded cording. The neckline, armscyes, back of the bodice and shoulders are also trimmed with padded cording. The gown has a high empire waist and long sleeves. The sleeve cuffs are trimmed with rows of pin tucking and Van Dyke points. The lower edge of the skirt is decorated with padded cording, ruching and rows of pin tucking. The hemline if trimmed with Van Dyke points. The bodice is lined with cotton. There are no hooks or eyes on the back opening. The gown is in very good and sturdy condition. There is a small area on the lower side of the skirt that has a couple of eraser size holes and some small scattered age spots here and there. A highly collectible gown to add to any collection.
