Description
I am very excited with the new shippment of indigo fabrics that we have recieved this print is my favorite and I know you will love it also. This is a 4 piece gown and consists of bodice, skirt, fancy undersleeves and hand crochet hand dyed collar. The bodice of this gown features period correct 3 piece back construction, period correct 4 darted front, period correct dropped shoulders, period correct seamstress made piping at the neck and waist of bodice. The bodice is lined for period correct fit and comfort with our 100% cotton muslin sleeves are lined with the dress fabric. This gown was designed out of indigo 100 % cotton Civil War reproduction print. Indigo dress and gown where well sought after in he Civil War era. Indigo dye was very dangerous to produce and even lets off a poisonous gas will being manufactured. Indigo production in the Americas dates back to pre Revolutionary times. The orginal fabric that this wonderful fabric was designed from was produced using cotton shipped from the South to the North then woven and dyed and printed in the factories of Massachusetts. The bodice features very full pagoda sleeves that are so characteristic of the Civil War era. The bodice closes at the front with 9 antique black peacock glass buttons that accent the fabric with perfection. This skirt shown over a 6 bone hoop(hoop not included) is hand directional pleated and set into a true waistband using a period correct method. The skirt length unhemmed measures 47 inches and has a bottom app bottom sweep of 170inches to complete this period correct fashion we have designed a pair of fancy undersleeves out of our 100% eru muslin and trimmed them with bias cut dress fabric. The undersleeves are very full and are gathered with very small gathers and close with the same antique buttons as the gown. The hand crochet collar was tea dyed to match the color of the muslin sleeves. This is a plus size gown and would fit as follows. WAIST 38 to 40 and BUST of 46 to 50 the actual measurements of the gown are as follow Waist 42 Bust 54 ( remember these last measurements of are the bodice) you must be smaller than the bodice for the gown to fit I have been a period correct seamstress and living historian for over 30 years. I am member of the 29th GA the Waldo Co rangers and a life member of the National Registry of Living Historians.
