Antique Tree of Life Crewel Work Embroidery Fitted Coat Start Price USD 45.00 Current Price USD 255.30 Time Left - Bid Count 7 Buy It Now Price - Reserve Price - Start Time Thursday, August 28, 2008 End Time Sunday, September 07, 2008 Location Moorpark, California See more about 'Antique Tree of Life Crewel Work Embroidery Fitted Coat' Description 1860-1960....one hundred years of fashion & accesories     Tree of Life Crewel Work Embroidery Fitted Coat This antique Tree of Life crewel work embroidery coat dates from the 1930s.  It is made of a pale slate blue fine soft merino wool, with hand stitched colorful tambour chain stitch, and crewel work embroidery designs.  There is a modified Jacobean design of the Tree of Life with colorful flowers and leaves on the branches.  It is a pattern full of symbolism; the "tree" represents the passage through life from the roots to then leaves.  There is a mixture of floral and oriental motifs from India.  The design work completely covers the entire coat.  This fabulous floor length form fitting tailored style coat is unlined, has a small fold over collar, full skirt and wool buttons down the front bodice for closure.  These crewel work style garments were made in Kashmir, and India.  The coat measures 52 inches long, with 38 inch hips, a 28 inch fitted waist, 38 inch bust and 15 inch back.  This quality custom made coat is in good wearable condition with only two tiny frayed splits on the front bodice and skirt (see bottom photo for close-up).  The buttons are a bit soiled and loose.  It is truly a fabulous piece of wearable art!
